The PropheticLight, or Prorocheskoe Svietlo in CapathoRusyn, as headlined on the cover, was a religious journal published in the language of immigrants who came to Vermont from Eastern Europe, preceding and following the First World War.
Paul R. Magocsi, the article’s author, the grandson of Paul Lengyel, a leading member of the group, describes the history and influence of these settlers.
A major change in their life was their decision to form their own church, after disputes arose with the Greek Catholic Church. Their own beliefs became less formal believing in a more personal relationship with God having learned to read the bible on their own.
